Testimonials

“I train three dogs with Ros & Paws and would highly recommend it! All of my dogs had various different behavioural issues but with her excellent training and patience they have improved dramatically – especially my two rescue dogs who had major issues.”

Liz McCann

“I have attended Ros’s obedience classes with both my dogs, and as someone who has had animals all of my life I was not sure that I needed to take my dogs to obedience. How wrong I was, it has been the making of them!

Ros uses reward based training, she is consistent and has a lovely manner with both the dogs and owners. The obedience training has given my dogs the foundation to allow me to attend Ros’s agility training classes, which gives myself and my dogs lots of enjoyment.

Nothing is too much trouble for Ros, I am about to get a new puppy soon and have already booked my place in an obedience class. I would not hesitate to recommend this service.

Thanks Ros for all your help, hard work ,and advice you have given me it has been greatly appreciated.”

“I first met Ros McKay just over 9 years ago when I moved to the area she was the nurse at my new vets surgery. I didn’t have a great deal of contact with Ros until 5 years ago when my first flat coated retriever joined my life and I joined Ros’s puppy party at the Oaks Vet centre where new owners of pups learned the rudiments of puppy care. At the end of that I joined Ros’s obedience training with my pup Angus. Angus and I learned a great deal about obedience training and as we progressed through her classes she began to provide us with training which would also develop us for agility should we chose to take on board that discipline. Across that time 2 other flat coats joined the classes and Ros worked her magic with them as well – my boys are all very well trained pets just what every owners hopes for.

The training that Ros provides is well delivered and she always ensures that owners know exactly what they are doing. She is relentless in her task and will not give up as it is important to her that her trainees (dogs and humans) leave at the end of each session having mastered the lessons for the day. If anyone needs one to one as they are having problems Ros will also do that. She will not stand by and watch anyone that she trains fail upper most in her mind is success for the dog and its master / mistress.

As time went on Ros also got me interested in agility – and now I compete in agility competition’s with my 3 flat coated retrievers. Ros adopts the same approach with agility as she does obedience in that she will not watch anyone fail – she is a rock for the trainee and a font of knowledge and experience. Ros runs a grade 6 and a grade 4 agility dog she has been competing at agility for many years and that is the level of experience she brings to the training classes. I am aware that she has helped people with particular problems in using agility equipment and will not give up until the problem the client is experiencing has been overcome – she always meets with success. We train together from time to time and she will not give up until I master the technique that she thinks I should have when running with my dogs – and at the end of the day I have always met with success as a result.

Above all Ros will provide friendly advice and support to clients – she will ensure that you succeed with your goal by using effective training gentle methods and techniques. She will not lead you on and will not tell you that something is possible if it is not – she is an honest and forthright person who does her best for her clients and their pets. I would recommend Ros to anyone as her work with you will make your life with your dog so much more rewarding enjoyable and stress free.”

“I have trained in both obedience and agility with Rosandpaws for over 3 years and with 2 very different dogs. Meg was my first Border Collie. She started as a pup in obedience and learned very quickly. I don’t think I really realised how strong willed these dogs were till she was just over a year, but by continuing to go to classes we worked through each problem we came up against. Meg is now a great agility dog!

18 months later we got a one year old rescue dog with major issues. Skye was a fantastic pet at home, but the hardest thing was anxiety and aggression around other dogs. We started at obedience as soon as we got her and for the first 2 months we spent most of our time at training in the corridor, coming into the hall for short periods and taking small steps forward. Ros had great patience with us and made me feel like I could get there with this dog.

After 9 months of obedience we moved on to agility and a year later we are now able to take Skye to agility shows and compete!

Classes are great fun and the dogs really enjoy them. Training a dog takes a lot of time and commitment but it is well worth it when your dogs behave when you are out and about. I have been complimented many times by other dog owners and horse owners on my dog’s behaviour!
My daughter Eilidh who is 8 has also done some obedience with Meg and has recently got a toy poodle, which she plans to train as her dog for agility.
Ros is fantastic with children too and really helps them to understand the responsibility of being a dog owner. Eilidh starts training Milly with Ros and Paws this week, and she wouldn’t want to train with anyone else.

Thanks for everything Ros”

“I have known Ros on a professional basis for 4 years now and have always gone to her for training and behaviour advice. This year I started ros and paws training classes with Holmes, my labrador puppy.

The classes have been great fun to attend and Holmes is always pulling me back in the door! I found the no-nonsense teaching methods easy to apply and practice at home, basic obedience comes on very quickly with Ros’s help.

I recommend the classes to both friends and clients with all types and ages of dogs”

“Ros’s dog agility training classes are great fun, both for humans and dogs! Ros makes it easy to understand how to make things simple for your dog, so setting them up for success rather than failure.

Caragh, my border collie, was quite a timid dog with no drive but over the last nine months since starting a beginners agility course with Ros she has grown in hugely confidence and loves doing all the different exercises.

Jake, my oh so handsome but rather mad border collie, on the other hand, had a bit too much drive and my husband was unable to control him round an agility course. With a lot of help from Ros, my husband now enjoys working with Jake.

Without this help from Ros I am 100% sure poor Jake’s agility career would have been over before it had even begun!!!”

“I came somewhat late to the sport of Agility but after beginners’ training with Prestwick and District DTC was completely hooked! The dog was great, knew exactly what to do, but I was a different story! I wanted to get better and so decided to invest in some extra training for me.

Training with Ros has seen me progress from grade one to grade three in our first competitive year. She is a clear communicator, an excellent motivator and most importantly really knows her stuff! She has helped me think about approaching courses in a more informed way, considering options, watching for traps, but most importantly has helped me handle my dog better. I understand more of the theory of what we are trying to do as handlers and this has helped me communicate better with my dog.

Ros has helped Flora and I to have great fun at this sport. Her patience and good humour have stood the test of training this non athletic woman, and I thoroughly enjoy our weekly sessions!

Her new indoor premises in Kilmarnock are great and will allow us to train in a clean and dry environment, a big plus after this year’s rain!

I really appreciate all that Ros has done to help me have so much fun in agility and wish her well in her new venture.”
